Any nmea experts here??

Right, so I've got a verado and I was trying to set it up with a mercury gateway to a simrad nss and a go5.

They have all been connected to a actisense small boat network and all show up on the device list of both simrads...including the gateway...both also show they are both receiving packets of data but I cant get any engine information to appear on either unit.

Any ideas anyone?? Thanks for any help

I’m not familiar with setting up a Mercury Gateway, but have you gone into the Network menu on the NSS & done a data sources “auto configure”?

somebody mentioned that the go series weren't to be linked up on a network but the nss were able try it without the go 5 linked up and see what you get

Done all that... Clicked on the send and receive waypoints, think I've clicked most buttons to no avail

It says it's nmea compatible, has a connector and videos on YouTube show it connected to a nmea network??

I've also tried that and nothing on the nss

is the mercury gateway actually required our mariner had a different box the name came up through the helm wiring and there was a break out box that plugged into it that had the nmea plug on it saves you running the harness down to the engine

The gateway seems to connect to the junction box... The can and nmea lights light up so it's working that end I presume

If you go into the network menu on the NSS, does the engine show in the device list? If so, click on it & there should be a “Data” button, this will show what data the engine is putting onto the network.
You will most likely have to have the ignition switched on for the engine to show up.

When you say “packets” are you referring to the the info shown in the network diagnostics or the actual data received & translated by the system. In the “Data” section of the device menu, you should see a table showing all the live data from the engine, RPM, Temp, Voltage, trim etc. I’ll get a photo of mine if you’re not sure what to look for.

Have you set up an engine instrument page to actually display the data?

Bearing in mind that mine is Lowrance & yours is simrad, but they are both Navico & basically use the same OS. You might need to get the instrument page up on the display & then populate the gauges.
Double tap the gauge & select the info you want to display & then select the source for the info.

I know a man that can help and will more than likely know the answer ............ give James Tonks a call at Barrus, his direct line is 01869 880178 ... James has probably forgotten more than most of us know about mercury interfaces .......... ............. he sorted out all my Garmin interface from a Merc 150 in a couple of calls .........
