Replacing battery and wondering what the best battery and should I replace the leads as well.

cables can get water in them and turn from copper colour to black strip back a few inches to check

Not if you use proper tinned marine cable and adhesive lined heatshrink over the connections.

And check your islolation switch, mine is only a couple of years old and the contacts seem to be wearing.
