A dc-dc buck converter of sufficient power rating is a cheap way to overcome this problem.
You can buy smaller ones without a display, set the desired output voltage (ie 14.4v), then waterproof/encapsulate it. The one pictured is about 50mm long, you can mount it near your battery.

I have a similar one on my Poover lithium. Works a treat.

I tried the outboard charging circuit yesterday with a 12ah battery.
Monitoring the charge going in it varied from 15v - 19v.
At the business end the battery voltage topped out at 16.4v
An improvement over the smaller 7ah battery which registered 18.9v.
I've ordered a small voltage suppressor to dial down the voltage going into the battery.
If it works as it should it will be four quid well spent.

>>>ordered a small voltage suppressor
Best option. Regulating charge voltage by battery sizing is a hit and miss affair... amazed the Tohatsu guy didn't advise a regulator.

They've not phoned me back regardingmy query.
He promised he'd get back by Tuesday afternoon.
When questioned he said the kit was a rectifier/ regulator.
20volts ain't regulated in my book

You can buy a little plastic box for it and fill it with silicon sealant? Otherwise RS components sell potting resin.
I'd be a little concerned that the item linked is only 2A power rating. The 5A converter I purchased didn't cost much extra and was about the same physical size.

Careful with the Silicone, you need a neutral curing type. Most is acetoxy curing (hence the strong vinegar smell) this is acidic & will attack the PCB. Mine’s just mounted in an IP65 box.

There’s heat generated, hence the heatsink, personally I wouldn’t pot it. Just get a small IP55+ adaptable box & some small compression cable glands. You could get a tin of conformable coating & give it a spray over. My beloved Metect would do the job.
