Best prices Garmin UK chart updates - US/Canada suppliers OK?

Hello All

Any suggestions please on where to get genuine Garmin chart plotter updated charts (download or SD card) for my 551 at the best prices?

I've seen some good prices from the US/Canada, but wondered if there are any drawbacks with UK use as I've seen some good prices?

Clearly one needs to check the update date, but are they all compatible worldwide?

Or any for sale here?

I'm after East and West Scotland coverage for updating the UK wide-map that came with the unit Spring 2012.

Please reply here or PM

Many thanks

Steve

I would bet chart cards are ok but some actual GPS/MFDs are geo fenced.

Try boemarine or getwetfeet. Both great prices.

I am just about to buy a 551S £395 seems to be the best price.

Just found this out you need an SD card first to update over £200 yeesh! Then you pay £49 for the update which goes in the SD card - confused? I am not being a techy!

Wonder if you can use someone elses card/update and give them a bit of money.

Did you buy the unit new in spring 2012? If so you may be able to get a free update from garmin. I got mine in may 2012 and got it updated for free.

Peter.

Wow Peter - that's great news, as I did buy it in Spring 2012 and was after the August update. How did you go about getting it free please?

Indeed, even if one has to pay, is there a way of getting updates, rather than just buying a whole new map? I assumed there would be, but have not found it.

Many thanks

Steve

Assuming you've got it registered with garmin it was as simple as logging in, and looking at your devices and updates. I'll be able to tell you better on Sunday as I need to log on to my pc and go through the process again. Alternatively if you phone garmin uk they'll do it for you if you send them the card.

Cheers

Peter.

Many thanks - have found it now but not the most intuitive system.

Cheers
