Chartplotter advice needed ASAP.

Ive just come back from the NEC boat show and ive found a Raymarine SL755 there for £500.

This is a greyscale chartplotter + sounder unit that has been discontinued and is been sold off cheap.(It was £1500)

In my view its a raymarine and i can't go far wrong with it but does anyone know when it was discontinued and why?

ps. Im paying for it tomorow if its suitable.

The only thing I know is that is a great peace of equipment. Don't know when was discontinued.
For info on specs look at this link http://www.raymarine.com/raymarine/P...roduct_id=1099
As you said if its RAYMARINE you cannot go wrong

PS did you see any cheap waterproof radars? and until when is the ex at the NEC on? Thanks

There wasn't really many boats at the NEC.
The was half a hall full or hard boats and clothes but the only RIB manufacturer there was Cobra and there was only this one electronics stand.

Oh, and hes got another 3 in stock if anyone wants one.

Ignore the original RRP 'cos if your budget was £1550 you could get a Garmin 2010c 10" colour which looks like a wicked bit of kit.

What size is the screen on the SL755 (7.5" I guess??) and which charts does it take? And does it support features you want - bear in mind that some chartplotters don't let you upload/download waypoints & routes to/from your PC, so you have to do this manually on the GPS keypad. My Raymarine is like this.

Sounds good for the money 'cos £450 gets you a Garmin with a 5.5" screen on the 182. http://www.garmin.com/products/gpsmap182/spec.html

I guess that the acid test is "does it do everything you want it to?" and if the answer is yes, then it's cheque book out time.

The only other thing is the fact that there's a shrinking margin between B&W and colour plotters. I reckon B&W won't be around for much longer and the price of colour units will come down again. If your new RIB isn't going to be ready for a while, why not wait until launch-time before commiting to all the accessories?
