Chartplotter dropping GPS signal

I was out yesterday evening (clew bay west of Ireland) and the chart plotter (garmin 550) lost the GPS signal. I thought that chartploter had broken down untill I came in and I met with a man who was out all evening he said that his chartplotter was picking up and losing the GPS signal all eveing. The hand held GPS seemed to work fine (Garmin Etrex). Its it posstble that there is funny business with the dispute in Georgia WRT the Satalites or is my chart plotter sick?

Sodding awful for about 50% of the time. Nearly lost the tent a couple of times-I recorded 35mph gusts across the campsite at one point on a handheld anemometer.

hmmm, what messed up the GPS network?

A: Crappy wet weather, on a system that doesn't like leaf canopy? NO!
B: Temporary fault, rapidly resolved, saving hundreds of lives? NO!
C: CIA up to their devious old tricks? YES!
Obviously.

FYI: http://www.spacetoday.org/Satellites/GLONASS.html

and I think they may have a roadmap from last time they were there....

any closer to Politics and I'll have to report myself to the Moderators

D: Solar flares

I believe these have been reported as actually knocking out GPS reception as they cause substantial RF interference at GPS freqencies. Essentially cosmic jamming!
