Echomap 65
Does anyone use a Echomap 65? Thinking of getting one and am trying to get my head around the instruction manual. Can you have the navigation chart displayed with depth and GPS speed showing at the same time? It's probably me being dense but I can't see any reference to it the manual.
Appreciate any thoughts.

Aye you can, here is mine it’s a 75cv but will be the same workings as the 65 I would think.

I have the 95. Yes you can customise screens with a variety of data overlay options. It's just annoying that you cant set your favourite custom screen as the default. But hey ho not end of the world.
I'd say get the biggest screen you can. Try and splash out on the 95.

I am also thinking about a 65 or 75. They come with Blue Chart G2 for the British Isles pre-loaded. I notice that the separate charts they sell are branded Blue Chart G2 HD. So my question is are the pre-loaded charts HD or not, and are they any good / useable?

Bluechart HD is a good upgrade, it basically uses sat images, also adds a few more features which you can read about and see if worth it to you. Perfectly usable without it though.
FYI G3 HD maps are out Feb so I wouldnt buy the G2 HD just now, i assume they will have navionics info on them now since garmim bought them.

Thanks for that Xk59D. Good tip on waiting for the new mapping - thanks. So aside from the satellite imagery etc, is the mapping detail different on HD?

Love em.
We have two. One is a larger last generation and the other is a smaller new generation version.
Easy to fit, full base mapping bought from Marine Superstore and Cactus Nav as they were the cheapest at the time. Remember lots of them need a transducer adding afterwards and prices range from £50 up to silly money.
Latest generation connects to phone automatically and scares the cr@p out of you leaving you wondering how the hell do text message appear up there ....until you realise!
Would recommend!

If you are going to buy one when bought mine (quite a while ago so maybe changed now) the upgraded chart chip was around £200 so i didnt order one as I planned to share the chart between two boats. I then found a seller on ebay offering "used chart cards" for £35 quid so I ordered one and it came on a new card clearly a copy but it works fine and saves me swapping charts from one boat to another.
Not sure if this is the hd version but it had all the functionality of the card I paid over £200 for previously.

Thanks for this Beamishken. I had seen this type of ad, and wondered if they actually worked. Good to know about your experience.

If you send me a 32gb SD card, I’ll send a ahem, cough cough, “used” chart card by return. All I ask is a £20 donation to the RNLI. The chart is a VEU706l G2 2014. Slightly out of date, but rocks & land don’t move much.

Thanks for the offer beamishken. I'm holding off buying the unit for a while to see if there are any good offers in the new year. I was thinking boat show offers, but I see it has been cancelled this year . I am hoping the mapping will be pre-loaded, but if not, I may well take you up on your kind offer.
