Or here .. if you want a managed service for you ...you need to phone them .. cos they wont tell you too much about their system on the web site incase it gives too much away but IMHO theirs is the best network ..

Do you know why they're so coy? When looking around for a system I couldn't really determine from them what I was going to get for all the extra outlay. It's a managed service, sure, but I decided that if my boat (or car or whatever) was stolen I wanted to be the one doing the managing on the basis that there's no one more interested in my property than I (I have a GSM house alarm for the same reason).

As far as the technology of the device itself is concerned, do you know if it's any more clever than a GPS chipset, a GSM chipset and a software control mechanism? Some systems can 'talk' to an engine management system and shut it down when instructed but I was of the view that I'm either on the boat or it's on a trailer so that wasn't much benefit to me.

I guess my conclusion in the end was based on the old 80/20 rule...a carefully chosen entry level system is 20% of the cost with 80% of the feature .

Mine arrived this morning, fitted an Asda phone card (thanks for the tip) and it functioned within minutes giving lat and long, speed, date, time, bat condition, signal strength and the imei number.

How do I get that information into google earth on my phone without writing it down and inputting it directly? I have a Blackberry Storm.

Which one is yours then? I see yours doesn't have the IMEI, battery and signal information on it.
