Electronics / switch query

Its been a long time since I played about with switches.....can someone help me out please?

I need to replace a missing switch on the Pac..... They are /need to be IP 67 rated and the majority of them are APEM 3641 off /on type (easy ) Like this.... 3641NF/2 - APEM - SWITCH, DPST, IP67 | Farnell United Kingdom

BUT, I need a switch to work the dash illumination lights.... It works Off /On (1/2 brightness) / On (full brightness)

I can't find the switch I need in the Farnell catalogue and tbh don't know what it's called.... Can ayone help with type and if at all poss / a seller? Apem /looking the same if at all poss....

Thanks v much in anticipation

I am in no way an expert but could it be an

Off/On/On

with some kind of resistor wired into the circuit of the On 1/2 brightness as required ??

Sorry Karl, was unclear from my post.... You are correct it is an Off /On /On i'm after (the 1/2 brightness and full brightness is a red herring.....was just to describe what the switch does)....

I can find On/Off/On but that doesn't work with the engraved labelling on the panel....

Anyone?

Just go on/off with a separate dimmer dial.

The instr. panel is engraved with Off, 1, 2 and I wat to stick with that..... adding a dimmer would mean finmding a space on apretty cramped panel.....want to stick with original spec..... the switch must be available somewhere, just can't find it.......

Presumably the double speed wiper switch still needs to be waterproof? and I gathered he wanted to keep the same design.

It looks like an ON-ON-ON would do the job - you just don't connect the first ON! There is an APEM that will do that: 3644NF Can't see a UK supplier who supplies in qty < 25.

IP67 Toggle with ON-OFF-ON (would mean relabelling the panel) but roughly similar in style to previous: (but would be I-O-II instead of O-I-II)
WT13L - NKK SWITCHES - TOGGLE SWITCH, SPDT, IP67, ON | Farnell United Kingdom
But has same 12mm hole etc to fit.

IF it doesn't need to be a toggle would this do the job?
1939.3119-04 - MARQUARDT - SWITCH, DPDT, IP65, BLACK, I/O | Farnell United Kingdom
(The picture is wrong it should show I O II on the switch)

The dimming function is almost certainly down stream from the switch...

I think they work by connecting to a different part of the commutator e.g. full speed connects at positions 12 & 6, part speed connects at 12 & 3.

So it might not be the switch it could be the brushes.

All switches on all Defenders will pack up!, I've had the main lights switch go, and the dip/beam switch fail too .. I'm told they're common failures on LR (and for 8 quid for a new Unipart item and 10 minutes, its an easy fix).

Polwart - Brilliant, thank you for finding that too..... I drew a blank with my searches If I can't get an APEM, then will try and find a a UK supplier for that.....looks v similar 'toggle' wise....

Thanks all for your input.... will post up pics of the rewire when completed...... Must say that the Halmatic stuff is pretty robust /cleans up great.... Meaty Bus bars, chunky connectors....great
