External speaker for Raymarine Ray54 VHF?

Hi folks,
Want to add an external speaker to a Raymarine Ray54VHF as the internal one seems to be knackered.

Firstly, the problem; When I try to squelch the VHF, all I get is a single 'click' as the RX icon lights up. I have been told people on other VHF's can hear us speaking, but we cannot hear others so i'm just guessing that it's the internal speaker (Any other things I can test?)

Secondly. what speaker to use? The manual just states to connect the black and white wires, but mentions nothing about what type of speaker to use ie 4ohm or 8ohm etc. - If anyone could point me in the right direction i'd be really grateful!

Thanks folks

Try having a look here; the manual for the RAY54 is about 2/3rds down the page.

http://www.raymarine.com/Default.asp...ion=3&page=660

seems to suggest it'll be 2 watts at 4 ohms

Hope it helps

Oh, it's on the specifications page of the Handbook

Silly me, I wasn't looking at the Spec sheet, just the bit in the middle of the handbook.

Thanks a lot!
