fishfinder
Hi all,
Looking for a cheap but reasonably realiable fish finder to equip my rib. The main purpose of it will be the depth function as I do very little fishing. I have had a look at a few previous posts and got an idea and at the moment my shortlist is
Eagke CUDA 168 Fishfinder
http://www.force4.co.uk/ProductDetai...8-6e6d7d841adb it comes across reasonably cheap and I have heard its fairly realiable unit for the job I want.
The other unit Im considering is the Garmin Fishfinder 140 http://www.force4.co.uk/ProductDetai...8-6e6d7d841adb. A bit more expensive but bigger screen and probably better screen display but heard they can be abit unrealiable and don't always give readings when on the move.
Anyone got any experience with these units?

I've used an Eagle Cuda 128 unit for a few years and it's been fine. I've heard of a few people have Garmin sounders fail on them. A mate of mine had a Garmin FF90 on a fishing boat and it only lasted 18 months.
Go for the Eagle

That old tub of a Dory looked a lot older than that.

decided to order the eagle in the end as I can't find much in the way of bad feedback about them on the internet. Feel Garmin was abit of a no goer as my last fishfinder was a Garmin and that suddenly decided to die on me a few months ago.

You should have seen it before the '2007 comprehensive refit'

Having tried endless other brands over the decades, that would be a very well-founded recommendation.

Always been very wary of hummingbird kit after we got through 20+ radios on the American fleet of work boats in about 3 years. Mainly water ingress, but they had a deal in USA were if it failed they would. replace it, so we did.
I found looking at the Lowrance and the Garmin sounders that the zoom on the Lowrance gave more detail and the Garmin was just the same image but bigger.
thats my tuppence anyway

I am very happy with my Garmin 300F. Even though the colour screen is small its very good quality and easy to read in all conditions. I got mine for £160 but I think you can get cheaper on the net.
