Fishfinder in an inflatable

Has anyone got experience of fitting one of these in a SIB?

I've seen the handheld type and have thought of getting one of those, but I quite like the idea of mounting the unit with a bracket onto the tiller arm of the outboard or even a bench seat using one of the rod holder mounts...and using a battery holder box with 8xAA batteries in to power it.

The problem would be whether the transducer could be removed from the transom for packing away.

Can anyone recommend a suitable one please?

Cheers

Several manufacturers make a "portable" transducer fitting; usually a suction cup. Humminbird's worked at least OK (as opposed to the head unit.) Lowrance has one I saw recently (though I never actually looked at the unit itself.)

If you go that route, make sure that, should the ducer come loose, it's restained somehow from getting into the prop.

Thanks jky...

I've seen those, but wasn't so sure that they would stick for too long, and I'd spend more time licking a salty plastic disc than fishing, but if they are ok, I might give them a go.

Cheers

I'm currently working on a solution for the smaller Nashers SIB.

To mount the transducer I'm designing a sliding stainless mount for the transom that is held in the down or up position with shock cord.

I'm also designing a removeable mount/bag that will have a small 12V battery inside(Jetski?) and my old Garmin 240 FF plus my old Garmin 172C GPS map on the outside.

The plan is to get the kids used to using the gear running around off the beach so the gear on the RIB is more meaningful on a proper run.

I'd have prefered a combined GPS map/Fishfinder but I have the two Garmin units sat on the shelf from when I upgraded the RIB gear.
