Fuel Gauge

I have a Suzuki 150 with a Suzuki fuel gauge and this season when I turn on the electrics the fuel gauge doesnt work and either a good thump or after the boat has been moving it starts to work.

Any clues as to the likely problem?

How about thumping the fuel tank (possible stuck sender) or the gauge (possible dodgy connection - maybe bullet connector coming loose) ?

Also worth checking the connections from the tank sender all the way to the gauge anyway - if it's solved by corrective violence then a loose connection is the first thought.
