Garmin 160 Fishfinder problems

Hi folks.......my club has just bought a Ribcraft 585 and we have put a brand new (All be it off of Ebay) Garmin 160 fishfinder on it. The unit has worked fine on the last 2 trips but yesterday the screen went blank and now when you try and power it up it beeps 5 times but the screen stays blank.

We have tried to power it up with the transducer disconnected but with the same result.

Has anyone else had similar problems or know of anywhere that we can look for help with fixing fault conditions on these units please?

Thanks

Have had this before, the LCD display has gone I'm afraid. Not really economical to repair. The marine superstore has a special on the mono and colour ones at the mo.

Was the Garmin 160 powerful enough for diving? whilst they will all show the bottom profile I wonder if 1200 watts (peak to peak) is enough to pick out a wreck from the bottom. In the past I have always had the larger lowrances which give 4000 watts and a good clarity. However one lesson were learnt eyars ago when sat above a wreck that we could clearly see another dive boat arrived, parked along side and there small low powered echo sounder couldn't distinguish the wreck from the bottom.

Sadly the Lowrance died over the winter so the search begins for a replacement,

Pete
