Garmin 192c gps to Mtech 500 VHF radio help?!

Can anyone give me some suggestions for hooking these to up together? They are both already wired up to their respective power supplies.

On the garmin gps I have the following cables:
Red- power (already connected)
black- ground (already connected)
Blue- nmea out (com1 Tx)
brown- nmea in (com1 RX
Green-nmea out (com2 TX)
white-nmea in (com2 RX)
yellow- alarm low

On the vhf radio I have:
Brown-nmea Rx +
Red- nmea Rx -
Orange- nmea Tx +
Shield- Ground/Tx -

The vhf then has a separate black and red power supply which is already connected up.

Having read both the manuals which werent particularly helpful, I'm now thoroughly confused so any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Connect blue from Garmin to brown on VHF.

Connect red and shield on VHF NMEA cable to same ground as Garmin unit (ie where the black wire is connected.

The Garmin doesn't have a signal ground - it uses the power ground as it's reference base, so other NMEA ground needs to be the same.

With NMEA 0183, there is not much consistency in wire colours.

Check that the setting for port 1 on the Garmin shows NMEA (and not Garmin format). Baud rate is 4800.
