Garmin 3006C faulty screen

Hi All,

I bought a rib today with a Garmin GPSMAP 3006C. On switching on the screen stays like this. Buttons beep when pressed and radar scanner is turning. Thanks for any help given.

Cheers

Gav

Looks like an internal electronics issue, perhaps a dry solder joint or loose chipset or loose internal connector, would recomend sending off for repair to garmin or find an independant elctronics repair person.

Send it to Garmin.
I don't know if their customer service is still as good but I've sent items to them for repair and had exchange units sent back at very reasonable cost:
Old 182C plotter with a broken plug replaced with a new 550 plotter for about £100 (this was about 10 years ago).

Thanks for the info. Garmin have been very helpful over the phone with regards to suitable replacements that will still work with the radar unit on the boat. Unfortunately they say unit I have cannot be repaired.

Since it's obsolete, it's worth dismantling it and pulling all the internal connectors then reconnecting them. Worked for me.

Thanks for the suggestion. Tried but no joy. Luckily the radar is compatible with some of Garmin's newer plotters.

send it to me. I will take a look.

Ill have a bash, the older stuff tends to be simpler.

Unfortunately not home until the 10th of July though

That's very Kind Craig.

My Dad is going to have a look but if no success I'll maybe take you up on that.

We are planning to launch from Kip anyway, as soon as we are allowed!

my guess would be the connection between the PCB and the screen. I would take the back off or however its covered and press the connections down. Common problem with older raymarines. Never seen inside one of these but it's amazing what little things can cause a lot of bother with them

Now fitted 922XS Plus so problem solved. Dad had a look inside and checked all connections. Next would be buying parts and at that age it's not worth it. Thanks for all the help given and assistance offered.

Also removed a Garmin GSD22 digital remote sounder box. If anybody needs then drop me a line. https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/288#inTheBox
