Garmin Bluechart question

My new boat came with a Garmin GPSmap 198c. It's got a Garmin proprietary card in it (the one with lots of little holes in the end) covering the English Channel. I've been looking online and it seems you can get the whole of the UK for 200 quid or just the Irish Sea (for example) for 140 quid. Is there some difference it terms of detail and is the whole UK one going to have insufficient derail for Rib cruising?

Garmin datacard

The UK EU 706L will give you about the highest level of detail you could want/get.
I think they now only sell the G2 or G2 Vision charts in bluechart datacard Just make sure the G2 is compatible with your plotter - check with Garmin
I am almost certain the vision ones aren't - but could be wrong

Won't work in a 198C though - both card and chart format are wrong.

Garmin datacards are still available and the unit is compatible with g2 charts.

Make sure your unit software is latest version (2.90). You need a spare datacard to do the software upgrade though. If you need it, I'm happy to download it on to a datacard if you send one to me as I have a Garmin card reader.

To confirm, thre's no difference in detail between the different chart sizes, just the area covered.
