Garmin GPS 72, - Map and cable

got my garmin gps 72 earlier this week and i wondered if anyone on ribnet has experience of loading maps to it, it does have memory for detailed maps and these can be loaded via a pc but i dont have the pc cable with it, only the power cable.

so could anyone advise what software i need for the pc, and if they have software and or cable i could purchase then that would be great.

but advise on how it works and how to down load maps and is it much good would be great

cheers

chris

Chris - I don't think the 72 has the capability to display detailed maps (as would be the case with a chart plotter). What it does do is support Garmin's MapSource technology. This should show you a "coastline" and a few key lights/bouys etc - as "waypoints". Its pretty crude. If it didn't come preloaded with the marine info you need to get a data cable and possibly their proprietary MapSource software!
