I have no idea, but might be worth putting the model of your unit up - There were a lot of monochrome units out there 10 years ago!
If the unit even reads Navonics gold - memory says you can alter the colours for your idea of shallow, so assuming it loads you could maybe alter your "no like-ee depth" to zero, instantly solving the shades of blue problem?
