Getting power from outboard- which wires?
Hi all,
I am hoping this is a simple question for someone in the know. I have a Suzuki DT15 1999 outboard and a few years ago had the electrics fitted so that I could tap 12v from the outboard. I seem to recall there was something for running lights and something that could be run to a battery. Could someone advise which wires I could run to what as would like to use the outboard to keep the battery for the GPS and fish finder topped up. Hopefully image attached!

My 25 2015 needed a charging circuit which is £106 ish separate rectifier regulator you get a bracket to fit both on full instructions come with it.

Hi Jeffstevens763@g thanks for the reply. Yes, I did get that as an add on and had it fitted a few years ago when i had the outboard serviced. The problem was the guy told me at the time what wires were what but have no recollection of what he said.....other than a vague one about running lights and battery. If I was to guess, I would probably go for the white cable to battery as it is fused and then run back to the black(which is the last connector on the right) but wanted to check if anyone knew for definite.

If you have a multi meter put it across the the white and black pos to pos neg to neg run the engine you should get 14.7 volts ish keep the wires from shorting or it toasts the rectifier you will have it sorted before hitting the water it won’t do any harm then.

The other thing to be aware of is don’t connect/disconnect the battery with the engine running. Connect the battery before you start & disconnect when the engine is stopped.

I am glad you have said that as I probably should know not to do that, but I do normally get the gps/fishfinder set up when underway....need to add it to the list when hooking up the fuel. Thanks Pikey Dave.

Found this there’s fitting and removal of charging circuit free downloads worth a look
Battery system charging outline diagram shows opposite to mine then goes red and black but I have read that they change colour coding as and when but if you test as I said and Dave points out you should be ok

Thanks Jeffstevens763, think that is for the 4 stroke (DF) version rather than mine which is 2 stroke (DT).
