Hand Held Icom Battery
One of My Icom M1 Euro's as just stopped charging, the middle charging contact on the battery as corroded away. We have a few of these so it could be between 13 months and 24 months old.
Anyone know the best way to go about getting freebie replacment from Icom now the big mans donna runner?
Jono

The Icom VHF radios I buy here (non marine) come with a 2 year warranty from Icom so if the marine stuff is the same you ought to be able to get it from the dealer you bought it from? If in doubt change the battery to one of the newer sets before taking it back

The radio has three year warranty but this does not cover the battery.
They only have a 1 year warranty.
Having said that if looked after it should not be damaged as you describe.
Sam Taylor-Nobbs is the sales manager at Icom give him a call and see if he can help you out.
Best regards

Cheers guys, we normally run fresh water over them and put vaseline on the conector from the battery to the radio, not noticed the corrosion on this one, just come back from the xmas hols and the hole contact as corroded and dropped off.
Will contact Sam at Icom.

Battery
Hi Jono,
Strange that as I have the same battery. I bought one on E-bay last year tofind the centre (charging) terminal was corroded away. I pressed on this and got replacement which meant that my one was at least used. Its the last thing I will buy on E-bay. I had to pay Import duty aka Paddy Tax on the bloody thing.
I gave the working unit to a friend as I was not using it and he needed one.
I still have the spare battery. I sugest that if you drill away the plastic and replace terminal with Soldered unit, it will work.
It seems tho that this is a fault with the unit. If you need to prove to manufacturer, then advies me and I will send my one to you to endorse your argument.
This is too similar to be a coincidence.
Aidan

Emailed Icom Last Night.
They phoned 1st thing and said a new battery will be leaving them today, and said best just to keep it washed with fresh water.
Why would you by anything other than Icom with service like this!
Regards
Jono

Pic Battery
Sure will Jono,
I will e-mail you my business e-mail address and if you "ping Me" I can snd photo tomorow so I dont forget,I will send enlarged photo of model no and serial number too.
I guess we are not alone.
This seems to be the charging terminal and I am guessing that this is why it corrodes fist with no sign on the others. Only a guess tho, could be just a faulty batch and coincidence!!

Great, Its ICOM only from here in for me, just not from E-bay.
Well done ICOM, you will have my business.
I guess I can sling that battery now Jono, I am so used to dealing with such half baked service from our Suppliers (business equipment and I give them alot of business), it a welcome surprise that you have received quality service.....
