Forgive me if I've got this wrong but it does say about DSC.

May as well go back to the wife if I wanna hear the sound of that all the time

Right I've searched and searched the flaming book trying to find where I read it had DSC, turns out I read "ICOM, the leading VHF with DSC radio manufacturer." So nice of Icom to put that in the manual of a radio that doesn't have it!
Must read the manual properly next time.

WHY? I find it much easier to fiddle with things and get them to work - the manual tends to be more confusing with most products!!!

must admit when i bought a gps many years ago when they first came out i asked a mate how it works and he said forget the manual just switch it on and play with it ,soon had the hang of it .problem with most manuals is that every model gets covered but the one you want and the more intellegent you are the worse they seem , and the help bits only cover the obvious stuff ,
