Anyone seen the Raymarine handheld 101e for less than £169? Any reviews of it? cant decide whether to spoil myself or go for the cheaper older Silva wproof.

Not seen any reviews good or bad.
Only has AA batteries in it, not a conventional battery back.
Raymarine have a fairly good reputaion.

Silva gets lots of thumbs downs from nay users, varios problems

You might want to consider the Icom M31 too

Hi, I'd recommend ICOM kit, we run two M21's brilliant! had one flood, ICOM replaced no hastle. Easy to use, good warranty, good battery life with the option to swap pack with a AAA pack if needed.

Apparently Raymarine are not sending any new ones out now and may recall all sold so far. Anyone seen the Entel 640 looks good for £150. Icom still hard to beat though.

Go for Icom. We use the M1 euro V and the I-m21's. List price for the IC m-21 is £159.00 and you can get it for cheaper than that.
All excellent radios.

Don't get a Silva - I have one, and smashed it at the weekend. Not very good at all - dropped it on the floor and it fell apart.

If you can go for Icom...great radios..got the M1 Euro and 601..the battery life in the handheld is fantastic. And i can listen to London VTS in Berkshire on the 601.

Top brand loyalty, no doubt from very effective personal marketing, can the icoms take external mikes?

RIBase
Simon
If you are asking about the HH Euro M1 (top product BTW) why would you want an external mike?

The Icom M1 Euro can take a speaker mike, i dont think any other handheld radios on the market do, except for the entel ht640. The only issue with the M1 euro is the cost (mailspeed marine price is £279 for the VHF + circa £80 for the mic) compared to the entel, which also has a lithium battery, and with speaker mic costs about £200 from belmont comms

Cheers

Matt

Brian,

I think the Simrad H51 can take external devices but at a price, the reason for going for a mike was so the cox could keep the radio on them away from the front of their bodies (gets broken hauling divers in by the bootstraps etc) and still be able to transmit and recieve on the relevant channel.

Waterproof with Mic

If you require a robust waterproof handheld with speakermic and shoulderholster to keep the unit out of harms way then the Icom M1 EuroV is the only real option - with the Entel a poor but cheaper 2nd bet.

In the Aux CG we get issued with the Icom M1 Euro V with speaker/Mike and ear piece. These radios do take a bashing on some cliff jobs and are always reliable. Battery power last for ages.
Its nice as well to put the radio in your pocket and just have the speaker/mike clipped on your lapel/collar.
