Both my Icom M31 and my Standard Horizon HX270e came with adaptors enabling AA batteries to be used in place of their standard rechargeable ones.

Which would I reccommend? The Standard Horizon. Substantially better battery life, more robust, and a bargain at around £120 (speak to david@boatcareuk.com for a deal). Wins every time.

I have one of these as well. I have never used the AA bracket that come with it, but I assume it works fine.

I can attest to their water-tight inegrity, having "launched" mine on one occassion

I've got an HX270E on order right now and one of the things that appealed was the ability to carry a set of Duracells "just in case"

Will do... That price was just a guess, I think that's about how much I paid for mine over a year ago now.
