All electronics prices have gone up at least twice this year, once in January and then again this month, average for both was about 25% increase.

I find this a bit odd, with the alledged credit crunch and seeing silly low prices for LCD /plasma tv's and such getting lower and lower - any thoughts?

Euro going from 1.4ish to 1.1ish may be a connection

It's the same with DSLR cameras and lenses. Prices are going up and down all the time. Think it's all down to where they're made and how thier currancy is doing.

Not to mention the US$.

Don't forget
1. Marine electronics are much lower volume than tellys and hi-fi
2. You'll always pay more for a marine-based product (even if it's identical to it's land-based brother
3. Neither of the above means that dealers get better margins than selling tellys.

Re odd low prices - there will always be some pre-increase stock available here and there. Just depends on dealer policy whether they keep it at old price and only increase with new stock or increase at same time as manufacturer regardless. Nothing dodgy or illegal either way.

Yen rate affects a number of manufacturers too.

Raymarine - Euro
Furuno - Yen
Navico - dollar/euro

Not a bad price for a handheld Think Olly is meaning something like the 411 though.

Sorry mate, didn't read Olly's post well enough. Just read the price and thought it was a standard VHF. I only paid £130 for a 411.

Good prices out there if you look & most people will seem willing to ' do a deal' if you ask at the mo.

I've not noticed any increase , infact you can get a lot more for the same money now as you would have paid 12 motnhs ago ( just my personal experience anyway).

Wintron Electronics always has agressive prices on all marine electronics, I suggest checking out their website for VHF sales
