How to spend £50 on Amazon?
Just got £50 in Amazon vouchers for Xmas. Looking on how to spend them. Wouldn't have been a problem 3 months ago when I had a few other things to buy, but I'm trying to stay SIB themed as I've got a few things I still on my list to buy for my 3.6m Zodiac, problem is, most are not the sort of things available on Amazon.
So I'm looking for ideas that people could suggest for around £50 and available on Amazon that they have found useful/good/fun and being a present, not necessarily the sort of thing that you would buy, possibly a bit of an extravagance / toy.
One things that caught my eye was a portable fish finder. Lots of different types but have no idea on quality, features or practicalities in a Sib. I'm not a fisherman so would view it as a depth gauge - I don't know if this is the sort of thing that these are good at, especially when moving as I noticed comments about not mounting near engine or using at speed.
Other suggestions appreciated. Doesn't have to be electronic etc (could be useful clothes, safety gear, chandlery items), but must be useful for use on/for my sib.
Thanks

Oh my gosh, I could spend $50K on Amazon without even trying. In fact I think I already have
My two favorite places to get good deals are Ebay and Amazon.

|Have you searched Amazon? It's surprising what they do sell, and if you try amazon.com and they ship from USA, you've even more choice.

They may not allow you to use the vouchers on the US site though....

Get a hand held GPS, might need to add some more cash but it'll be useful - as would a VHF if you don't have one yet?

Thanks. Got a very good handheld GPS from a previous life.
Been looking again today:
- Portable navigation light, no - don't do the navilight 3 colour
- odeo flare (not listed)
- cheap VHF maybe (either that or £50 towards a dsc set which IMHO is overkill when I won't be more than 200 yards off shore in good weather)
- books for VHF exam - nope included in course fees
- same for rya level 2 books but that exam is a year off
- anchor, no (doesn't get good reviews as it doesn't have a chain)
- torch - possibility but not sure what
- Mini LED to go inside my 2nd hand Silva compass - maybe but would leave £40
- Waterproof trousers...
- Waterproof bag for phone - doesn't look big enough
- Bag for outboard engine - not sure
- 5l petrol can - inspired by another thread but one I like not listed
- Security lock for outboard - hassle so only for insurance purposes as sib is going to be left out of sight only for very short periods - think bike padlock/chain would be better
- Tiller extension - until I get engine fitted to boat for first time don't know how useful one will be
- Portable fish finder - unknown quantity
- Another electric toothbrush - I'm getting desperate at this point...

Always check prices from Amazon, items are often cheaper elsewhere!

Ideally we should avoid Amazon altogether
Leaving aside the non payment of UK taxes.
Every sale to Amazon is a sale lost to our shops. If we cherish quality retail outlets giving sound advice we need to spend our cash there .
Im sure many wont agree tho !!!

Well I do!! Two well made points and in this financial/commercial climate should be supported.

Not everything sold through Amazon is sold by Amazon. Very few things that I now buy via Amazon would not have benefited the profits of UK local shops and the UK tax man.
Exactly the same as with ebay. You sound a bit hypocritical there jambo.

Member of the bear blue rib club I guess means that you buy through ebay in the same way that many buy from 3rd parties via amazon. Both company not fulfilling their fair share of tax payments.
If anything, ebay is worse as I am sure there are quite a few third parties running ebay businesses who do not declare their profits on their tax returns - not that I am implying that the seller of your rib was selling it as a business for profit and thus should have declared it as income.

Except much of what is sold on amazon does end up being supplied by our British shops.
Anyway enough of that. What can I get with my £50 amazon vouchers that I can use for/on my new sib?
