I must share this awesome android chart plotter

It took me a long time to find this. And I want to share it with everyone so they keep updating etc.

Android app. Mx mariner . Verdict, awesome.

Its only about £7 with half of uk. All off line so no need for mobile connection. Works a treat on my samsung galaxy s2 phone and on my tab 3 8.0 tablet. We even use it sometimes on my mates arvor 250 which has a £1000 plus plotter. Works just as well. He has latest htc phone and I think a motorola tablet and works a treat on them too.

It really is good. I haven't worked out how to transfer way points from each device but sure you can.

Just sit back on your tablet and study your charts to find those fishy spots.

And no, I'm not affiliated with them. Its just really good and the right price.

Which half? (or do you get to choose?)

Simply an observation, but having tried to make a phone call in the rain on my Samsung I'm not sure I would rely on any mobile phone as a primary navigation device.

(I have resurrected my old Push button Nokia wit ha new battery & in a waterproof bag for rib trips it was so bad!)

Well downloaded & tried it....

Seems quite simple & effective, just what I needed. You buy the app & then the UK map 1/4 area & it has all the charts you need about £10 all in.

I have an otterbox for my phone & a cuddy to stay dry

A water proof map case? And I assume then just as good as a purpose built gps but for one hell of a lot less assuming you already had a smart device. Its on my phone and tablet for no extra as its on same account.

I think the uk is split into 4. I've got the se one which seems to go roughly from south devon to yorkshire. I think each map is about 7 quid and the app is a couple or so. So buy the app and if it works then buy the more detailed maps. It still shows a basic map even if you haven't bought that area.

I tried several before this and got nowhere. You had to go find rasta maps etc but I couldnt make them work.

I think my map was about 800mb ish so not the smallest but then you can do it off line with just gps.

Dont forget not all tablets have gps.

Sorry, no, dont think its available for iPhone.

It has transformed my boating and if nothing else, its an awesome back up.

Charts appear to be current, and updates are due for 2015 so I assume valid for a year

I'll get a chance to try it out on the water in the morning so will let you all know my thoughts

I really have no idea. All I know is I have used it quite a bit and also on my mates arvor and compared to his v expensive plotter its spot on. He says the app would be more up to date? We have a very difficult bit of sea here in Essex and it handles it very well. Plus to be fair the bottom is never going to change that much that you should be pushing it to very shallow depths. I think?

I paid more money for a second hand paper chart of ebay from 1982 than this and the contours haven't really changed.

Like I say its awesome.

Plus it gave me the excuse of getting a new tablet at xmas. And now I have a backup with my phone which is more than can be said of many fishing boats with a single garmin.

My phone on the boat has its own mount on charge, it also has a handy "Big Button" loudspeaker car dock mode, with an addable App button. So this just makes sense to have this app running as an option.

It's likely to be foggy tomorrow so it might prove its worth...

I downloaded the app and English Channel charts onto my Galaxy Note 3 this morning. Everything works ok; I'll try it on the boat this Sunday. I'm not sure I'd call it 'awesome' but for £10 all in it's certainly not bad and will do just fine as a back up.

Seems very good especially with the updates and for a tenner! Makes my Garmin 172c with the old blue charts that I can no longer get updated look sick.

Well it seems to work fine, though on a phone the screen is a bit small so a tablet would definitely be better. Otherwise just need to sort out the options & route planning bit, waypoints etc.

Otherwise damn good value for a tenner

True, unless you are somewhere the sandbanks move all the time then no, the landscape doesn't change. If you are worried about channel marker bouys and whether they are still flashng the same beat or i nthe same position then yes, updates are going to be more important. It's like my take on OS maps. I have maps of Scottish hills that are donkeys old. I probably change my Glasgow area ones every 6 or so years as the conurbation evolves.

Yes, still works fine on my samsung galaxy s2. Obviously its only a 4.3 screen but its the same as other stand alone plotters. Not as easy to use as an 8 inch tablet screen but still works a trreat. And cheap!

Bit of an update on this.

I've been using this quite a bit & its brilliant. However today I came across the Irish Sea on a ferry & I have to say the app is amazing for the price.

I watched with much interest as the ferry threaded its way through Liverpool entrances around the various wrecks & obstructions on a low spring tide. The maps are all up up to date & the functions all work rather well.

Really needs a 10" or so screen I think, but it works fab otherwise.
