Icom 601

Question for Jon Brookes

Jon I hv the IC601 and you wouldn't mind if I say a very good radio. However what happened today has really puzzled me. This afternoon I was moored up to the pontoon and the radio was on and tuned to CH16. A chap from another pontoon came up and said he could hear me talking and that I was blocking CH16. Could not understand cos nobody was playing with the radio.
Any thoughts?

Transmit button jammed "open" ??

Found this before when, on a yacht, the fist mike fell down the back of the console and the transmit button got jammed open. Unnoticed for hours by the unfortunate skipper until the RNLI + Coastguard + Navy triangulated him!
(By the voices coming over the radio later, that was not all they did to him either!)

I have seen this before.
If you have washed down the unit with the mic out and not fully dried it, the unit may have gone into tx.

Leave the mic out, let the socket dry, unit off.
If you can see water in the mic socket do not use.

Always flush it down with the mic in place.

If not that then get it back to us and I will get it looked at.

Regards

Many thanks for your reply. I never take the mike off even during wash down. Will check over the weekend and if still a problem will do as you say
