Icom IC-M31
After reading posts on this forum and other reviews I've decided to get a Icom IC-M31 radio.
Anyone know of a supplier for the Icom IC-M31 that can beat £135.32 inc VAT & Delivery ?
This is from www.lifetec360.com are they a good reliable site to use ?
Before I get my wallet out any last comments on them ?
Thanks

Print the advert off and take it into your local chandlers and ask them to price match it. They might squirm a little but bet they take the cash

Sound a good price to me. I have just paid 139.95 inc Vat & 12v chargeing lead from Pumpkin Marine. As Pete says, get a local outlet to match the price.

Icom M31
No idea who they are, looks all fine and dandy, and it is reasuring that they do not grey import but and I have been building boats and selling marine equipment from all major manufacturers for over 20 years and this is the first time I have heard of them but that is VERY cheap for M31 all "Icom Dealers" will not better £139.99 inc. But you pays your money and takes you chance!
PS
I do know of an alternative (with identical specifications & performance) that may be of interest that is only £99.99 inc at the mo PM me if you would like details.

Why do you both suggest to go to a local outlet is it anything to do with the warrenty?
Should anything happen does it go back to the supplier or Icom ?

It's just that I like to buy localy if I can. I prefer to go and get something and bring it straight home rather than waiting for the delivery man.

Absolutely, after a while they get to know you. Do register the warranty card with ICOM if you want the extended 3 year warranty.

Well maybe I am the wrong person to comment on that one!!!
Just a couple of things to bear in mind.
Radio is our core business, we dont build radio as an add on to another business.
We have been building radio for 40 years.
We are the only company to offer 3 year warranty.
And we have nice people like me working for us!

I didn't ask how good ICOM was!!! Don't need to be told that - their reputation is second to none! Just wondering how good the cheaper sets are compared to units from ICOM costing double the price - what has been sacrificed to cut costs?

Then we are hardly likely to go to a market with a product that would harm that good name.
We wanted a product to compete at the lower end of the hand held market.
The M31 is exactly that.
A good solid waterproof hand held, no frills.
Nothing has been sarcificed really, ok no lithium Ion battery, no access socket.
Hope that helps

I'll second that.
It's a 2 way Marine VHF radio, higher prices get you a Multifunction Communication Device, which is a radio with bells and whistles.
Seriously, it’s a solid, easy to use, reliable (Heaven help you if it isn’t, Jon) little radio from a well-respected manufacturer.

We dont do any direct sales.
You will need to contact you local dealer.
Access socekt, a hole for adding in remote spk/mic or headsets or helmets etc.

Think I will take the plunge - modern electronics are so cheap these days - a good quality waterproof VHF for £130 - what would that have cost a few years ago???

Got my VHF in the post today not to impressed with the lifetec site as I had to chase them up for it. Apparently not in stock though I get the feeling nothing is.
Placed the order Tusday 3:45pm so it's here just within seven days.
What's the socket on the top for between the on/off and the antenna ?
If the black cover isn't on does this affect the waterproofness of the unit ?

Depends what radio you went for!
If it is the M1EuroV then it is for a spk/mic.
It is fully waterproof if the rubber cover is left off but we advise it is left on.
I have never heard of this company so can not pass comment.

That is for dealer programming of private channels.
Should NOT be removed by the end user, this may effect the waterproofing f the set.
