Icom411.

Thinking of having an Icom 411 vhf put on my new rib by my dealer who recommended it. (Fitted for £200.00 ) Are they any good for ribs.

Thanks,
Steve.

Thanks,

Fit it yourself and save yourself £70.

Not a bad VHF though-I've got the predecessor and I quite like it.

My thoughts are the set is a pile of pooh unfortunatly. I have been through three of them already! I like icom, but unfortunatly the 411 is not a good bit of kit. They are not willing to help if the set goes wrong either. As a thought , try the standard horrizon sets, they have more user friendly, bigger screens and they are cheeper. Just a thought.

I had a 401, good set and no problems with it in 4 years, the 411 was the other option on my list if I don't go down the AIS route, what problems were there on yours TMB?

I'd second TMB's recommendation....look at the Standard Horizon GX1500E. I paid £100, but haven't seen that deal since, have a look around, chaeper than the Icom at about £115 IIRC. Lots of poeple on here recommended it when i was replacing and i'm pleased with it.

Personally I would avoid Cobra / XM / Midland in an open RIB.

Even though all claim waterproof I have had numerous waranty claims with XM models in the past and I believe from others that Cobra and Midland are in a similar situation. Although the replacement under warranty wasn't questioned just the hassle justified the minimal extra expense for at the time an ICOM M411 which I had absolutely no problem with despite signifcant soakings and shaking around.

The audio quality and volume is also signifcantly better than Cobra or XM.

I understand that Standard Horizon are also particularly good and if their handhelds are anything to go by I would highly recommend.

Many thanks for the the feedback guy's, after reading your posts no one has said anything negative about the S.H. so as adviced I think I will go for the GX1 1500E.

Thanks again,

Steve.

aerial

Does the aerial come with the S.H. or do you have to buy that separate and if so, where. Sorry if it sounds a stupid question but there is no mention of this with the dealers.

Many thanks,

Steve.

I doubt very much whether an aerial comes with it or any other radio.
