Ignition coil

My two stroke tohatsu 60c is spluttering on idle and a little difficult to start, I was going to test to see if the coils are in resistance range but can’t find any info on any available service manual maybe if I see any marked difference in one I’ll just change it after that the next available step would be a carb strip and clean

You're welcome. When I'm done fixing my 2.5hp, you can have dibs on my knock-off Clymer shop manual...

PM me and I’ll send you a link for the service manual. To be fair, Tohatsu 2-strokes are pain to start from cold, even with new plugs, etc. Once warmed up they start on the button and are bullet proof.

Before you strip out the carbs, drain them first on the fuel bowls to observe contents. Anything untoward, then clean with ultrasonic cleaner or carb cleaner.

Also check the wiring. They suffer oxidisation as Tohatsu, in fact all major brands didn’t use tinned wiring. Pull bullet connectors apart, lightly sand and reconnect.

The butterfly choke valve is also prone to seizing, so check that out too.

One mauual gives two part numbers for coils one old and one new is the part number stamped on the side of the existing? ( the motors not with me)

I haven’t stripped three carbs before a little daunting to a novice but you tube gives confidence
