Ignition switch placement
Hello all
The ignition switch for my Suzi 200 is currently housed in a small plate I made up and mounted on a vertical surface of the console.
I’m thinking of moving it to make way for a speaker, and repositioning it on the 45 deg surface of the console, but I’m worried it’ll be more vulnerable to rain etc getting in. Does anybody run an ignition switch in a similar position and had trouble with water ingress?
Thanks
Nasher.

Can you get one of those little rubber covers for the barrell of the lock they put on the hitchlock of trailers?

Hi Simon,
I survey quite a few American sportsboats. Most of these have the ignition switches on their dashboard consoles. They normally have a rubber cap with a split in it that the key passes through. Seems partially waterproof and I guess they work OK.
Not sure if it may be a Mercruiser part?
Regards

Thanks guys
Think I'll go with it anyway, it has a sliding plastic cover inside the slot and is full of silicone grease so will probably be ok. The console is covered when not in use anyway an I'm not out in the rain often.
Might be an excuse to keep a jonny in the the Glove compartment, just in case you understand.

From what I remember of wiring using a suzuki marine ignition switch they are pretty waterproof on their own anyway so I'd go for it-certainly better than the couple of merc counterparts that I've used.

Did you ever wish you'd not started something?
The emergency Jonny in the glove compartment is normally for carrying water, like the SAS. Well thats what the other half has been told

Good idea.
Never know when you will require a handy expanding liquid recepticle.
And can be particularly usefull in port to stretch over your 'gear' to stop any moisture getting out, sorry, in.
