In Console LED Lighting

Since my Cummins is in the console and I do run at night sometimes, it would be nice to have some light in there in case I want to check something out.

Would something like this work:
1 Pair White Universal 12V 12 LED Car DRL Strip Daytime Running Lights Fog Lamp | eBay

I like that they're already on plastic mounts and not loose & flexible (because I'd rather screw them on instead of using an adhesive backing). Anything cheaper that has these characteristics?

RIBase
At that price you probably can't go wrong.Even if they aren't waterproof you could pot them in some clear resin.

Correct. "Cali" . I may not choose those exact ones but for $10 I should be able to light up the inside of the console and the bilge. I think that I'm going to wire them to the same switch as my deck courtesy lights. Still need to decide on those:

http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs...8#.UTeWfxmolMM
$9.99/each (trade discount)

Or

http://www.amazon.com/HELLA-95968071...la%27s+red+led
$26/each

I have no idea how much light these things put out of how many I'll need.

Post what you figure out please. I was looking at lights today because I want a way to light the cavernous storage space where the diesel used to be and my new flip top console gives access to.

How 'bout these:

http://www.ledstrips8.com/samsung-56...use-p-608.html

I did something similar by buying LED strips and cutting them into segments. A short strip of three 5050 LEDs (the way the strips can be cut) is quite bright at 12V. One strip under the edge of my console was all I needed. I also put short strips inside lockers and such.

I had to cut and solder the strips myself, these are pre-made. You just might have to splice the wires if you want longer spans between units.

Pretty cheap too.

I'm actually going to do what you did. Last week I bought a 5 meter roll of 5050 "waterproof" (IP65) LED's and I'm going to cut them up. I paid $1.68 (including shipping) for the roll off ebay...I figured I could afford to lose $1.68 if they don't work...but I heard even if you buy them from a US seller, they're buying them from the same place in China/Hong Kong. When they arrive (18 day shipping estimate), I'll add some pictures for everyone of putting them together. I'm thinking: solder, black 5200, covered in adhesive heat shrink.

So, you said groups of 3 are plenty bright? The plan was going to do a test strip of 3 and then decide how long to make each run.
