Yup - I've got the C80 which is exactly the same bar the screen. Also the DSM300 fishfinder module - no radar as of yet.

It is a brilliant bit of kit - lovely clear screen - never fogs and the maps are great. The fishfinder is the best I have ever seen - great display.

Only one little niggle - sometimes it claims to have "lost" the DSM300 - I used to turn off the DSM300 at the power source but I have now found you can reboot it from the menus - just like a bloody PC really!!!

the c series looked the best but its nice to hear from someone who has one. the screen is amazing, really stops the suns glare and i like the radar overlay as well. really thinks it makes a difference haveing a good screen, i got the 3d kit have you had a play? its amazing i never use to be into the gadgets but this is a wicked piece of kit. shhhhhhhhh dont tell the wife how much its costs or ill be in the wof wof house

What is the 3d kit? If it's 3d mapping I thought that was only for the E series???

well i f-in hope not. my bro just got me one in america, and he said its for the c. i know they have 3 or 4 cool programs for them ill get the exact one he got and find out otherwise he can get his ass down west marine. thanks coders

I've been using the e120 for the last year which appart from few features is a similar unit, and I cant praise it enough, absolutly brilliant.

now how can I make enough room on my A frame to mount a radar dome :-)

If you perform a software update you will notice that its not just like a bloody PC...... it is a bloody Microsoft PC!!!!!!

I went into the local raymarine shop and asked to look at the c series, a skinny little man with a bunch of keys on his trousers comes over to me and demonstrates this unit with all whistles blowing. So I agree that’s great I’ll get me one off them, so I pay rub my hands together and walk out of the shop.
Then I post my thread on here and codprawn says about 3d Imaging on the c series, really?
So I call raymarine and they also confirm that the c series doesn’t have the memory or power to run this software and that it must be the e series if you wanted 3d imaging.
So I go back to the man who I got it from and say why did you show me an e series and sell me a c series? He replies, no you have looked at an 8in c series and an 12in e series and bought an e series.
I asked to look at the c series and thought I had bought a c series but I have ended up with an e series if that makes sense, sneaky

I am so confused but after speaking with Raymarine Portsmoth, they assured me we have the right equipment being sent to us which is the e series. Confusing,

my brother is a pilot and i think he has just seen 3d mapping and that its for a raymarine in a glass cabinet in west marine and bought it thinking i might like it. ill post what he got when it gets here but i think its the 3D mapping

i now have seen the differance c120 e120 haha. but when you bare faced with such a cool gizmo you tend to look at the screen

i cant wait to get it on the rib its amazing, the radar overlay works well to should be usfull for NZ only 10days now

We have fitted a lot of C and E series sets over the last year and have been very impressed by them.

Observation would be that in most cases the C series is more than enough for a RHIB yet a fair bit cheaper than E series.

E series has advantage (nothwithstanding 3 D mapping - not essential) of being a full blown computer and from that has significant applications that may suit specialist vessels. 1. Ability to plug in video cameras . We have experimented with underwater units and this has potential.. 2. Easy to link several unit together ie. a number of pods on a vessel sharring info for training purposes. 3. Ability to show engine diagnostics on the screen. There are no doubt other abilities that we have overlooked.

We are now playing with a SAt transmission system whereby you can "ping " the boat and poll back all engine data via internet/satalite/e-series/engine EMM. Requires another couple of £k of equipment from another company but works well worldwide.

However unless you are into/have a need for all these funtions then C series is the recomended. In your case you have afforded the E series so enjoy !

Spot on John. I am not a fan of the 3d stuff. What I do miss though with the C series is as you say the video inputs. You can pick up lovely colour underwater Sony cameras for about £100.

The other uses of cameras would be low light - you could mount a forward looking camera and an infra red spotlight and operate in total darkness - many uses.......

We have the C120 with radar and DSM 300 fish finder on the Mitigator and love it. One word of caution - the screen cover blew off and disapeared while trailering.

yep or as I use mine, with an infrared camera pointing backwards, then you can see behind you without being blinded by the white light on the a frame when you turn around.

Is the DSM300 a fishfinder or a straightforward sounder?

It is one of the most advanced fishfinders on the market. Remember though they are only as good as the transducer you fit.

got a 500 on War Machine Cod, it's a neat little toy... check your plugs/connections if your c 80 is losing the finder, sometimes it is as simple as a loose connector...
