little black box

Standard Horizon are trying to sell me a little black box (the FF520 fish finder module) to completement my GPS. As i havn't set up the GPS yet i'm not sure about the following...

Does the black box complement the setup in providing more accurate fish finding data?
Will the transducer just connect to the unit and work fine without the 'little black box'?

cheers

As far as I know, the black box thingie *is* the fishfinder. When you put the black box and transducer on your existing system, you're essentially using your GPS as a display head.

Putting the transducer on your GPS won't accomplish anything, as it doesn't have the fishfinder electronics.
