Lowrance GlobalMap 1000, extra maps and lines on screen
I am buying a boat with a global map 1000, and i wanted to know the cheapest way of getting new maps for it, i am looking for the chichester and mevagissy areas, i am total novice to this aspect but know we can do wonderful things with computers these days, it comes with a card thingy which i suspect the maps are downloaded onto, can anyone advise me of the most cost effective way of getting new maps.
also the display has some vertile lines on it when cold, am told they dissappear when the unit warms up, can anyone advise if this is anything to worry about
regards
chris

I have an Eagle chartplotter, which uses Navionics charts. I think your Lowrance will use the same. Give the UK importer a call, they have upgrade prices.

Charts
Chris,
The GlobalMap 1000 unit was last manufactured by Lowrance nearly 10 years ago, and uses CF85 format CMap cartridges, not Navionics charts. I'm not sure about the UK, but CMap here in Australia stopped supporting CF85 format a couple of years ago. It would be worth checking though - my C-Map catalogue has the following contact details for C-Map UK:
C-Map (UK) Ltd

United Kingdom
Tel: +44 (0) 1329 517777
Fax: +44 (0) 1329 517778
Email: sales@c-map.co.uk
Hope this helps.
Cheers - Chris

Sorry to say it but I think your new boat deserves better - instead of trying to get maps for something that old why not upgrade to a new plotter???

oh my god, i have bought an antique, well if it still works i might be able to get the cmap cartridge or software at a carboot for a couple of quid
will have to look into this a bit more carefully, would like one of the new colour ones as they look cool and might work out relatively inexpensive compared to my item from the dark ages
ebay here i come........

Chris,
Sorry, forgot to mention in my last post. The lines down the screen are either a failing LCD pack - fixable, but expensive and not worth the effort, or possibly a software issue with the LCD addressing. If it's the latter, a reset might fix it. Reset for the old SuperHerman Lowrance units (LMS350, 350A, X70A, GMap 1000 and 2000 etc) is as follows:
1. Turn unit OFF
2. Press and hold CLR key (under the 7 button on the keypad)
3. While holding in CLR, press and hold the ON button
4. Hold both CLR and ON until the display comes up then release.
That's the soft reset, and won't remove marks or other user information, but might clear the screen. It's probably worth a shot - if it doesn't work, at least it was cheap!!
Cheers - Chris

Sounds like a fair trade mate - now all I have to do is get my Honda Firestorm on a boat, and work out where the whatnot Hook is..
Cheers - Chris
