Magellan GPS screen gone blank...is it terminal

Hi

I have a Magellan 315 hand held as back up GPS. About 5 years old, never had a problem...until I switched it on over Xmas and nothing came up.

Batteries I thought....so I sourced some new Duracells......still no words and figures? I tried the backlight and that works perfectly......a light screen with no words and figures!!!

Is this just a wire loose, or something more terminal? I can't seem to get the back off, so any assistance or advice would be appreciated (yes I've read the manual and it doesn't say how to get the back off.

Cheers

Jon

I wouldnt even try to get into it. I had one of the first magellan hand helds and when the keypad went(way outa warranty after a few years of being out in all weathers) I contacted them and was advised to sent it to their service agents to see about a replacement. Reply back from agents was that they are non repairable items but if I would like to pay the quoted amount they would send me a replacement. Ended up with much better latest model at half the price of a discounted new one. Really good service-spec when compared to certain others I could think of!

oooh-just a thought but might be worth looking at the spring contacts for the batteries. Mine used to corrode a bit and stop it working but a bit of emery sorted it out!

Backlight wouldn't have lit (most likely) if that was the case.

doubtless you are correct- hadnt read that bit. Back to plan 1, try and blag a replacement unit at a good price-they were very good to me when mine went, but that was years ago.

I've had the 'your unit is unrepairable, but we can do you a replacement at a good price.....' mail.

I advised I can get an Etrex at £78, so am awaiting developments.

Annoying bit is of course the Irish Sea waypoints that I've now lost!

Cheers

well thats nearly a result! Interesting to see what they will come up with- as a comparison to what navman have to say when I send back their waterproof plotter that don't like raindrops!
