A 50 Watt hi fi unit will put out 50 Watts, not 200 Watts. This is not a class A product delivering high transient amperage.
A 50 Watt hi fi unit rated at 8 Ohms would put out more Watts running at 4 Ohms - however, your head unit is highly likely to have an output rating at 4 Ohms as most car and marine units are.
200 Watt speakers will operate with a 50 Watt output, but they wouldn't be operating in their comfort zone when presented with a low output.
There is a school of thought (I own a recording studio and share this thought) that having an amplifier
more powerful than the speakers will give a better sound - it's why little portable radios often sound better than they have a right to. However, I wouldn't recommend this for a boat as you will undoubtedly be whacking up the volume to full from time to time and this would blow the speakers. But certainly bringing down the wattage rating of the speakers to 100 should deliver a better sound than putting 200 Watt (or bigger) speakers on your system.
This may be of help..
