Mercury Tachometer and Wiring Harness

I have an 84' Mercury 80hp and have been told that the socket on the opposite of the control box to where the key goes is to accomadate a wiring harness for a Tachometer. would anyone know where I could pick one up cheap other than getting mercury accessories as I am told it may cost a small fortune,

What Control do you have? The harness prices start at around £13.00 + vat, Merc tachos are expensive, but any make will normally work.

You could try the next jumble for one, they were being sold at Beaulieu by JF for around £20!!!!
