after a meet up with fellow ribnet members today (good to meet you folks) i realised i had forgot to change the MMSI in my XM vhf.
i tried to call the number in the makers (XM) but i'm going to assume the worst and they are gone since number is dead. anyone got any ideas how i can get this reset or is it buy a new VHF time?

I am not familiar with this set but most sets can not be changed by the user (ie a proper dealer/service agent can)

Because if you make it public, thieves can find out how to erase it.

little update folks, i managed to get the original MMSI number put into my name fairly easily.
couple of things you need from the original owner are the MMSI, call sign, name and address. if you struggle with any of that you can call ofcom and they will ask some questions re the original owner to confirm you own the equipment legally and can assist with mmsi, call sign etc. if you have those 2 it can be registered against your name on the ofcom licencing website.
thanks for help channel ribs-appreciated.
cheers

I've bought the XM DSC on the well known auction platform. I need to get the MMSI reset. can anybody help? Since I bought it from Austria and I live in Germany I can not transfer the MMSI that is installed, to my vessel.

mmsi is issued to the boat, not the radio or operator so couldnt be transferred anyway. radios must be returned to manufacturer or certain dealers for a reset.

The problem is that it seems that the manufacturer does not exist any more. And also this kind of radio is very uncommon in Germany, so there ain't no dealers.
But obviously there is a method to reset it by pressing certain keys in a special order.
At least Channel Ribs said to know a solution. But Channel Ribs' Mailbox is full so I can not send him a PM. But may be someone else knows?

I believe the XM is a rebadged Huricane A2E/ RadioOcean 4500
in which case the procedure is:
Turn radio off.
Hold down [16] and [watch] while turning radio on.
Enter 4500 as a pin (think thats done by rotating the channel selector and pressing it in to accept)
You should then get an option to reset MMSI. Push channel button to accept then confirm...
Switch radio back off and on.
If you need a german dealer: Busse Yachtshop: VHF DSC Radio Ocean 4500 (English manual on there tells you how to enter a new MMSI.).

Or did he buy the whole boat, not only the VHF-radio?

The easiest way is to contact ofcom ( assuming you're in the uk) & have the mmsi transferred to you.
