If you are simply putting a rubber duck in the console - I doubt it gets much more abuse on the outside of the console. If its a 1/4 wave a lot of it will be at wave level.

IMHO - the issue with fix and HH VHFs for coach boats etc is not the antenna, its that you can't hear jack sh17 over the engine / wind.

Logic would say DSC should be the solution with groups set up etc, visual alert, clear the message is intended for you. But most club boats will have a basic HH. Plus the boats will change regularly for different events etc.
