Moving outboard kill switch

I've installed a console and controls to my Rib. I have a 40hp Mariner Outboard and need to move the kill switch from the outboard to the steering console.

I can see the switch is held in place by a small grub screw but wanted to know if I can snip the cable in the outboard and run a new length from that and remount the switch on the console?

If so, could anyone advise on the type of wire which would be suitable? I will probably solder and heat shrink the cable

Cheers

Do you not have a kill switch on your remote throttle?

No, there's no electrics on the throttle just the control cables.

Was looking to re-site the kill switch close to the steering wheel .

I would get a remote with integrated kill switch is OB pull start only? You can just relocate the wires and fit a switch of correct type can buy genuine ones https://pacermarine.co.uk/product/me...-lanyard-unit/

Got to love the videos of the boats that obviously didn't have kill switches as they circle around driver-less until they smack into something permanent and heavy.

You'll likely find a lot of those have kill switches & killcords but people just can't be bothered to put them on & leave them hanging from the switch.

The short answer is yes, you can just snip the two wires and extend them. Any old 2 core cable would do, tinned marine spec would be better.
