Navico Axis200 Battery replacement

Hi Folks, I want to replace the batteries in the above radio as the battery pack has failed. A new replacement battery pack is too expensive (I could get a brand new radio for less) therefore I want to repack the existing battery pack with fresh batteries. Has anyone on the forum done this already and if so can they give me some pointers about splitting the case and what batteries are best to use as replacements.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I looked into it a couple of years ago (alarmingly, having checked, it was actually 10 years ago!). The upshot was that I bought a new radio.

I think I've still got the Axis knocking around somewhere so I'd be interested if you do find a good solution!

Here's the old thread. I don't know if any of the links are any good these days, but might be somewhere to start
