Navionics update headache.

Hi, has anyone tried to update their Navionics charts online at all? I'm having snags with it.

On my Mac the chart installer keeps dumping me back at the "you need to install chart installer" page. My laptop (running Win7) goes further to tell me to insert my chart memory card but the chart installer plug-in then stops working (tried with Chrome, Firefox & IE).

Does anyone have any ideas? I have contacted Navionics through Facebook but they haven't replied yet.

Thanks.

Thanks for that. I think there is an OS X Yosemite issue with the chart installer.

But it's not as easy as downloading an update onto your existing chart which is why the laptop struggled - you need to buy an update card as well as your original chart card. Both are required when you update and only the new card gets the update, leaving the original card as a spare (at the original configuration).

We do a lot of navionics updates.

The slightest IE, windows update or Firefox ext etc seams to upset it.

I keep a dedicated laptop for this now which (fingers crossed) seams to work for us.

I'd be happy to sort it FOC if you want to post down. (Perhaps enclose cost or return postage as stamps)

Hi Daniel, that's a fantastic offer - thank you.

Unfortunately I haven't bought an update card yet (I assumed you paid for the update then downloaded it onto the existing chart but I now know this not to be the case).

After a reality check from SWMBO I'm now wondering if I need to spend the money, as the original chart works fine but won't work fully with the new automatic routing (supported by Raymarine lighthouse and Navionics update).

Navionics update headache.

I had assumed you had a chart that had been updated / was purchased in past 12 mths and wanted a free update.

Post plotter & chart type and I'll price an uptake as competitively as I can.

Ah right, my chartplotter was bought at the boatshow in January and came with the Navionics silver microSD chart so is less than 12 months old - does that qualify for an update then?

It's a Raymarine a68 with silver microSD card chart of the UK/Ireland.

You plug it into a reader and connect to the navionics app... But that's where this thread started !

Post it down.

I'll be very suprised if we can't update FOC. I'm 99.9% sure all cards are free 12mths of updates so as long as it wasn't programmed 3 mths before you bought it you'll be fine.

Ok, thanks. If you can PM me an address I'll send it to you. I'm willing to pay return postage (and maybe drop something into the charity pot too)!

It seems that Navionics haven't made things quite as clear as they could, but thanks to everyone who has offered advice.

In short:
There is now a "Navionics+" chart option, that sits between the Gold and Platinum charts, but this is only known as a Navionics+ if buying it outright. If you're upgrading from a silver/gold chart it's called the "Navionics Update"!!

You need to buy the update card, then insert into your PC with Navionics Chart Installer running. You'll be prompted to insert your old card into a PC to prove you have it, and then replace the update card back into the PC for the new chart to go onto. After the process you'll have a Navionics+ chart on the new card and your old silver/gold chart on your old card as backup.

And thanks to Daniel, who is currently trying to look after me with the update.
