They use very little juice - about a watt or so. They are auto with power - and if "warm" will have a very short start up cycle.

You'd never be stuck in front of a Ferry cranking your engine, would you, P.?

In a world where you actually need to know ALL the potential hazards, it's better to know what you don't know than think the only thing to worry about is the big ship; and, I'd suggest as Daniel alludes to in a world aboard a 4m boat, you won't even know what you actually know.

I don't think anyone is suggesting "thou shall not have AIS", just it might not bring either the value or safety benefits you think it will. If I've made you stop and doubt your own logic then I think the forum is doing its job.

Bearing in mind that they only transmit periodically, it wouldn't overly concern me. You'll still appear on screen where you were before you turned the *NAH-HA-HA-HAH!* key.

If you want to feel safe with your own private MI5 guardian angel watching over you, it's always worth chucking a few choice words into any email/text or phone conversation. Trump, May, Nicola, Sarin, next Thursday, are good starting points[emoji6]
