I've used the 1700 for years - they make perfectly good kit, just not as 'polished' as Icom. You can snag that unit in the UK for under £160 from a dealer, so make sure it's a dealer you're buying from on Ebay.

IMHO I'd avoid used, unless it was unfitted and unprogrammed. That said, I had to change an MMSI with SH recently, and it was a cost free, DIY exercise. It can only be done once per unit tho!

Should be fine as long as it’s new I’ve had a 1600 for a few years now.

I fitted that exact radio in my new rib a week ago. Very good for the money and nice and small so takes very little space. Inbuilt GPS. I have 3 of them in various boats

There you go mine being fitted in this video. Dont buy the flush fitting kit. Just use a small blob of mastic in the back
