Well done. I do have a comment:
Consider adding a fuse by the +ve battery terminal.
I guess you could use tinned cable and adhesive lined connectors but as it is all very accessible and easy to change, it is a bit of a luxury.

There are two fuses already fitted, one to the Garmin and the other to the switch, USB, socket strip.
Need to order a gt20 transducer and I have booked a navigation course as Polly suggested.

My Garmin GT20 transducer arrived today. I hope to fit it before I go up to Largs early April. Instructions are pretty good in terms of fitting it, however real life is sometimes better than a manual.
Has anyone any info I should be aware of before I fit it? Thanks in advance

Hi redneck. Living close to you I’m looking for a slip way on the canal test out my boat after winter repairs . Maybe a place on the Leeds and Liverpool with a shallow drop over the bank may be an option do you now of a location close to you or myself ?

Thought I'd give an update on this thread for those who are considering a chartplotter/depth finder. I have been using the Garmin 45CV and GT20 for the past 10 days around the Fal estuary (Truro, Tressillian, St Mawes, Falmouth) & the Helford River and I have found it to be a bit of a game changer. There are so many creeks and tributaries that make up this area it would be easy to take the wrong one, having the chartplotter I instantly knew I was heading in the right direction. The transducer was also a great help. It ment I could venture much further up the creeks than I normally would have done without fear of grounding, but the biggest help was indicating 2 big sand banks (not shown on the chartplotter and which I later found out have a tendency to move around a bit) which on a very low spring tide was less than 40cms deep.
I havn't explored the "fishfinder" as yet, but I will over the coming months and post an update.

Hi Chris.
The tuppaware box was from Dunelm.
The battery I had already. It lasts me approx 10 hrs using the chartplotter and inflating my sib once. This is the same battery:-

You'll need a small battery charger
The switch and usb strip was from ebay. This is similar but it's gone up in price since I bought it. It was pre wired with an inline fuse:-

My Garmin 45cv came with an inline fuse.
The two battery terminal spade ends and covers can be bought at any car parts shop/Halfords.

Anyone know what voltage the battery has to drop to before a Garmin Striker 4 stops working? I've got both RC type LiPos and an old motorcycle battery for a 125cc.
The LiPos are years old and might not charge up fully (or at all), and the bike battery is a bit crap (too crap to go in a bike) and doesn't get above 12v or something, I need to check.

It's not so much "when the Garmin Striker 4 stops working", it's more when the battery fails completely.
If the battery won't charge above 11.8 volts it's knackered and won't last very long. If it won't charge above 11 volts it probably won't power your Striker at all.
Not normally something I'd say, but why don't you buy a new battery?

To answer your question. I have had my Garmin still operate at about 11.9 volts but this is the battery getting very low. I just added a second small battery to my set up for when I use my outboards that don’t have a charging circuit.
I use lead gel batteries but a small 3 cell lipo would be a very good lightweight backup

Yeah. I will use Navionics I think for the other.
Thx for replies. I've still not checked, but I reckon the bike battery is beyond help, IIRC last time I looked it charged to 12.5 or something but sitting not long at rest put it back to under 12.
I have a few of the LiPos sat in an ammo box from when I used to build racing quadcopters years ago (a short lived hobby lmao). Maybe they'll do it. Or just buy that linked battery above.
