Optima battery
Has anyone fitted the blue top. Can you please give a review on it as I was thinking of forking out the random but only if it's worth it and there are multiple benefits.

No spill, no maintenance, no venting...
As with all batteries, make sure you buy for a reputable dealer so you get the full warranty and can exchange it easily if it goes bad.
With that being said, I had an 8 year old Red Top. The only thing that killed it is that it went dead and I left it that way in my racecar for over a month.

Billy, I've always had Optimas since I was let down badly by a dud "normal" battery. Can't say if they are worth the extra or not, but put it this way, I've just put a pair on the new boat👍 Tayna are good on price & service.

I have 2, one for the electrickery & one purely as a starter battery
These are the 2 I have
Optima Blue Top Battery BT Slim 4.2 (8006-252) (BCI 34M) BTSLIM4.2 AGM
Optima Blue Top Battery BT DCM 5.5 (8052-188) (BCI D31M) BTDCM5.5 AGM
The 4.2 is purely a starter battery & delivers 1000cca, the 5.5 has a higher AH rating but lower cranking amps & is physically bigger. If you're just fitting 1 , fit the 5.5 as it's dual purpose. I have the 2 linked with a blue sea mini ACR, works a treat.

IIRC Merc specify a battery (of which that is one) that must have quite a high cranking output to get the engine spinning fast enough ?

I'm running a pair of blue tops in my boat. They are neat (no leaks) and compact, other than that, well, they're batteries.
Unless they're topped up regularly, a single just barely cranks my F115 after about a month of sitting. An hour on the charger takes care of that pretty well.

Dave I leave mine on rib on mooring all season and charge via the Ob. With the Merc's new alternator system would that suffice?

Dunno about the new merc system. If the boat is on a mooring & running bilge pump etc. I'd be tempted to have 2 batteries & keep 1 exclusively for starting.

Oooh its 10 years since my Opti 150 I dunno .. but the dealer specified that battery just for the engine, and I had another for the rest of the leccy .. and it was because the merc/mariner needed that cranking output from it
