Panel Mounted, Water Proof & Flush Battery Connector

Hi,

I am re-designing my battery box and when I do the rewiring I want to add a battery port onto the outside of the console for future use.

I want a socket on the console that is;
  • Flush Mounted so people wont knock it off as space will be tight.
  • Water proof when not in use

I have seen some online, but the flush mounted is a bit of a struggle, and I don't really want to go down the route of making my own recess to mount the socket in.

The other option is a caravan / motor home hookup socket - but I don't really want to use something like this as no doubt someone will use the electric hookup at a marina and blow it all up as it will just be onto the battery.

My plan would then be to make up various plugs for the various uses like solar panel, car towing electrics, battery charger, jump leads...

Steve

I have a Bulgin buccaneer bulkhead socket in the dash, not truly flush mount as it stands about 15mm proud, but it's very robust & discreet, it's only about 40mm square. IP 68 rated when mated or has the cap fitted.

Cheers Dave - Just seen they also do some low flange that may work.

P.S - Have you done a cross channel trip with BP?

We use these (or very similar) for our searchlights and also for a bilge pump on a long cable we can use to assist other boats if needed, they work well.

Is the bulgin IP67 unmated? Very very few are. Lemo make them as I have used them in miniature most need a cap to maintain the integrity as open they are not sealed and corrosion is a major issue

I think it needs the cap to be waterproof, I have also ordered the cap.

Nope, needs the cap. A dab of silicone grease helps as well.
