PiranhaMAX

Can anyone advise me on whether I can buy a PiranhaMAX 215 portable but use a normal transom mount for the transducer?

ie..is the transducer the same for both the portable and fixed versions? I already have the fixed mounting bracket, but unsure whether to splash out for the portable version if I then find that I need a different transducer for another £60.

The reason being, I would like to have the transducer mounted permanently to the transom, but have the choice of removing the fishfinder when packing the SIB away.

Cheers.

Should be the same. The difference is that one comes with a bracket to be screwed to the transom, the other with a suction cur.

Correct but the 215 also comes with the wireless Smarcast transducer

Cheers

Oh yeah: the fishing lure thingie? Forgot about that. Probably with good reason. (I don't fish, so it's worthless to me. If you do fish, maybe it's worthwhile; don't know.)

no it is nothing to do with being a fishing lure, it is a wireless transducer.
It is good for a range of about 150m away from the main unit.
I grant you it is mainly used for fishing as it then gives the bottom image/sonar/fishfinder below that point rather than the boat.
